Proposed Alternatives

Build and No Build Alternatives. Three build alternatives have been selected for initial evaluation in the environmental assessment (EA). Alternative one is a modification of the South Range Avenue interchange from a conventional diamond interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) with improvements to the ramps, South Range Avenue, and Rushing Road.

Alternatives two and three would split the existing interchange by moving the eastbound on-ramp and westbound off-ramp to Pete’s Highway and connecting them to South Range Avenue with access-controlled collector-distributor roads. Alternative two includes a partial cloverleaf configuration at Pete’s Highway with two roundabouts. This alternative would consider using the existing Pete’s Highway two-lane overpass and adding a second structure of two additional lanes. Alternative three consists of a diamond interchange configuration with three roundabouts. All three alternatives will consider the addition of lanes to the South Range Avenue interchange ramps.

A “No Build alternative” will also be studied in order to evaluate future impacts without any construction improvements.
